According to colour psychology

  • This colour relates to spirituality, and stimulates the imagination, inspiring high ideals. Indeed, it represents the future, the imagination and dreams, whereas its spirituality side calms the emotions.

  • Purple promotes harmony of the mind, contributing to mental balance and peace of mind. There is a strong link between thought and activity with purple: it inspires and enhances psychic ability while keeping us grounded.

"Purples draw me in and seem to envelop me and make this serene world, this peaceful state of mind. It calms and soothes me and it's like the moon in the darkness of night. It's like it's all around you, it just draws me in. Light purples like lavender make me daydream and feel happy and calm. They are like a light mist." — Anna

  • Purple also inspires unconditional and selfless love, encouraging sensitivity and compassion. Purple assists those who seek the meaning of life and spiritual fulfilment. It is seen as a unique, individual, and independent. The purple colour expands our awareness, connecting us to higher consciousness. It is often associated with the transformation of the soul – which is the reason why philosophers are often attracted to it.

  • Purple relates to the fantasy world and to the need to escape from the practicalities of life. It combines wisdom and power with sensitivity and humility. Indeed, this is the colour of humanitarian, using its better judgment to do good for others, but at the same time, it is associated with royalty and nobility, impression of luxury, wealth and extravagance. It is a colour which has power with a richness and quality that demands respect.

I don't have a purple problem, I have a purple passion!" - Jackie Harmon Sweeney.

There is a difference between violet and purple: violet appears in the visible light spectrum, whereas purple is simply a mix of red and blue. Purple is more intense than violet but its essence is similar. It is a colour with a lot of different shades and significations: lavender, lilac, mauve, amethyst, plum, deep purple, etc.

      • Lavender: Lavender is a light purple colour with a bluish hue, a light violet colour. It is a colour that is attracted to beautiful things. It has a fragility, sensitivity and vulnerability to it.

      • Lilac: Lilac is a pale muted violet colour with a slightly pinkish hue. It implies immaturity, superficiality and youthfulness. It is extroverted and enthusiastic, inspiring glamour, romance and vanity.

      • Mauve: Mauve fits somewhere between lavender and lilac. helps us to make the best choices and decisions; it is concerned for justice to be done and always does the right thing. On the other hand, it can indicate a degree of commonness, the social climber aspiring to higher ideals.

      • Amethyst: A mystical colour, amethyst opens intuitive channels. It protects the vulnerable and assists the humanitarian. It is the colour of the evolved soul.

      • Plum: Plum is a reddish-purple. An old-fashioned colour, plum is honourable and linked to family traditions. It is also prudish and narrow-minded, always preaching at you.

      • Deep Purple: Dark purple is related to higher spiritual attainment. A powerful colour, it can also indicate arrogance and ruthlessness.

If your favourite colour is purple, it means that you are sensitive and compassionate, understanding and supportive. You are a free spirit and have a peaceful and tranquil quality.
